LG vs Samsung – The lines have been drawn, the shots have been fired.
LG vs Samsung. Two of South Korea’s largest companies are at odds. Again.
One has to wonder what caused it — did one technology giant steal secrets or obtain insider information about the other? Another hacking scandal?
No. They are at odds over destruction of washing machines. That’s right. Washing machines.
Samsung is claiming that prior to this year’s International Franchise Association (IFA) show in Germany employees of LG were spotted destroying Samsung premium washing machines at two store locations. Samsung filed a property damage and defamation suite against LG. Of course, not to be left out, LG is counter-suing Samsung for company defamation and tampering.
Investigators raided LG’s corporate offices, seizing documents and hard disks deemed relevant to the investigation. Due to their president and CEO, Seong-jin Jo, not complying with investigating officers, a travel prohibition has been put in place. This is not good news as Seong-jin is slated to be in attendance at the CES 2015 in Las Vegas in January. LG has asked for the travel prohibition to be lifted so Seong-jin can attend CES, then once he returns, he will comply with investigators. LG is still waiting on a response from the investigators.
I guess we will have to wait and see what kind of dirty laundry will come out of the wash.
