Apple projected to sell 20 million of its new Apple Watch.
CCS Insight is projecting Apple to clear 20 million Apple Watches sold after its release in the 2nd quarter of 2015. Apple does have a HUGE following, but reaching 20 million Apple Watches sold seems a little overly optimistic. Gene Munster, an analyst with Piper Jaffray, is projecting a slightly lower number of 8 million Apple Watches sold. It would appear that Apple is also playing it safe with its projections. Apple has ordered a run of 5 million watches for its first order.
However, the current retail market of Smart Watches has yet to catch fire with the masses. The lackluster sales numbers from Samsung, Pebble and LG contribute to the skepticism of Apple reaching the 20 million mark.
Apple is going try and revive the market by offering 3 different models of their Apple Watch: a standard, Sport, and Special Edition (which is gold-plated). Projected starting retail price is $349, but I would expect to pay more. Currently, there is no projected retail price for the special gold-plated edition, but some people are saying it could start at $4,000.
9to5Mac, a Apple fan site, is currently running a poll asking people to guess what the final retail price of the Special Edition will be. The poll starts at $1,500 and goes as high as $10k. Should be interesting to see how close the poll gets to the actual retail price.
