Apple snags HBO streaming service for Apple TV.
HBO is prepped and ready to launch its new streaming service on Apple TV. Apple struck a deal with HBO for the exclusive right to broadcast the standalone service. Richard Plepler, HBO CEO, says, “we couldn’t be prouder” to be partnered with Apple TV.”
HBO’s new service is priced at $14.99 per month, purchasable through the HBO Now app on iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. Subscribers will have full access to all of HBO’s original content “past, present and future,” Plepler said. If you subscribe in April, you will receive your first month free and your service will be active in time for the start of HBO’s smash hit, “Game of Thrones.”
Apple has lowered the price for Apple TV’s service from $99 to $69. This should bolster subscriptions as $69 is well under most HD TV plans offered to consumers. Tim Cook, Apple CEO, announced, “Apple TV will reinvent the way you watch television.”
