Beware the Stagefright Exploit!
If you own an Android device running on version 2.2 or newer, then your device is vulnerable to the Stagefright exploit.
Cyber research firm Zimperium located the exploit in which a hacker can take control of your Android device by sending a picture message infected by the malware.
A representative of Zimperium said, “This vulnerability was identified in a laboratory setting on older Android devices, and as far as we know, no one has been affected. As soon as we were made aware of the vulnerability we took immediate action and sent a fix to our partners to protect users.”
It will be completely up to Google’s partners to set their own timeline to push the update… and that’s even if they do push one out. Some Google partners have been known to let patches and security updates sit for long periods of time. In any case, now is a good time to make sure your device to set to receive updates automatically if your device offers that option.
