Samsung Gear S2 to Ship in October
Samsung announced at the IFA conference in Berlin that they will start shipping the next generation of smart watches, the Samsung Gear S2.
This batch of smart watches will offer models that support Wi-Fi or 3G Internet connections. Both will allow you bring out your inner Dick Tracy and make phone calls from your watch.
The S2 Classic will be your standard, but sophisticated looking model. The Samsung Gear S2 model is designed for a more sporty look and feel. Both models were designed with full intentions of stepping up from the last generation. There’s another version of the Gear S2 that has 3G capabilities.
All three of these models will feature the same hardware with a 1.2″ super AMOLED screen that’s 360 x 360 pixels (or 302 pixels per inch), as well as a dual core 1GHz CPU and 4GB of storage space. Currently, the WiFi models are projected to offer battery life for up to 3 days before needing charged. The 3G version is field-testing in at slightly less charge time of 2 days.
Developers are working hard to expand the capabilities of the Samsung Gear S2 by collaborating closely with partners to enable it as a remote in connected homes and hotel or car keys. The true measure of the success of the watch will be how fast apps for the watch can be designed and released. Only time will tell.
