Chevron to add Apple Pay capabilities to gas pumps.
Chevron is planning to expand the use of Apple Pay from its convenience stores to the gas pumps. Apple has been working directly with Chevron to release the expanded service sometime in early 2015, allowing drivers to pay at the pump using their iPhone or Apple Watch.
It comes as no surprise that Chevron will be the first to make the move as they have been early supporters of Apple Pay, including the tap-to-pay service in its stores since its debut.
Apple is currently talking with UK banks to bring Apple Pay services to the United Kingdom in 2015. If Apple is able to pull off expanding into the UK and integrating its services in at the gas pumps, Apple Pay could be in line for a major boost in support and gain the respect it needs for further expansion.
One point to remember is Apple Pay is still limited to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Apple hopes to release support to the Apple Watch in the coming year. They also report that owners of the Apple Watch will be able to use Apple Pay when paired with older devices such as the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5.
