Microsoft has finally released its Office Suite to Android Smart phone users. It is a very stripped down version of the Office that you know on the desktop. Also as of now you can only run Word, Excel, and Power Point on Android 4.0 or later.
This is very similar to the Apple mobile release of Office, you will need a subscription to Office 365 in order to take advantage of this app. Subscriptions range from $100 to $264 per user per year. When you purchase this subscription you will be able to use this software on up to five different devices.
One issue that Microsoft does not seem to address is that this will not install on an Android tablet. Office does install on an iPad but most users report that it is terrible and it not worth using on the iPad. The experience is buggy, chunky and not well designed.
They did offer a solution, Guy Gilbert a senior product manager on the Office Mobile apps team stated,”We built Office Mobile for Android phones to ensure a great Office experience when using a small device.” Also he added that if you want to use Office on a tablet then the Office Web apps should be used to provide the best experience.
