What is so great about the upcoming Radeon SSG (Solid State Graphics) GPU?
Well, to start, the Radeon SSG is the first of its kind and it’s boasting the features we all want. The Radeon SSG features a 1TB SSD built right on the GPU. The prototype is equipped with two Samsung 950 512GB HDDs, which will run in a Raid 0 array. Of course, these features may change before release.
What kind of speed can I expect?
When released, it’s set to be equivalent to the speed of the RX 480 and will feature onboard M.2 NAND storage slots. This will allow for extra storage right out of the box. It also features a PEX bridge chip that prevents end-users from reaching the dreaded GPU memory limit during extensive graphics processing. It also allows the GPU to be capable of 8K video. Additionally, it supports PCIE endpoint to OS, which allows data processing to be limited to transport speed rather than GPU processing speed.
When will this technology be available on the market?
Release is not certain at this time. However, there are several sources leading it to be here sooner than you think. It’s the first affordable card that can display 8k video and raytracing, which allows for photorealistic images and a pre-rendering feature for complex objects. This was a limitation for previous GPU’s, separating it within a class of its own. 8k rendering also runs at a smoking speed of 80 FPS.
