Adobe releases revamped version of Fotolia called Adobe Stock.
Adobe is offering their most recent product, Adobe Stock, at a discount to its Creative Cloud Suite users. It is also being offered as a standalone service.
Adobe is hoping to gain space in a market already dominated by companies such as Shutterstock and Getty Images. Currently, Adobe offers about 40 million images as compared to the 56 million offered by Shutterstock. This is one of the reasons why some analysts are skeptical about Adobe being able to pull developers away from Shutterstock.
“I think that Creative Cloud users could potentially experiment with Adobe Stock, but I don’t think that the content is there right now for them to switch over,” Topeka Capital Markets analyst Blake Harper said. Rohit Kulkarni of RBC Capital Markets told Reuters, “I think the magnitude of the lead that Shutterstock has is kind of under-appreciated.”
Like most things, it will most likely come down to the cost of the services. Adobe is currently offering a annual subscription of 750 images for $199 per month. This is just one dollar more than Shutterstock’s professional package.
Only time will tell if Adobe is able to gain a foothold in the $3 billion market.
