Developers of Photobucket Hack App Arrested

Photobucket Hackers Indicted for Computer Fraud and Access Device Fraud

Brandon Bourret and Athanasios Andrianakis, the developers of the app that allowed the harvesting of personal data from Photobucket.com, have been arrested in the United States on charges of computer fraud and access device fraud.

Using an obscene pun on the name Photobucket, their cleverly-named app launched in 2012 and allowed users access to password protected accounts. This access lead to photos and personal and private information.

If found guilty on all counts, they could face up to 15 years in prison and $500,000 in fines.

Michael Clark, Photobucket’s chief technology officer, released the following about the arrest: “We congratulate the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Attorney’s Office for their vigilant investigative work in identifying and bringing these perpetrators to justice.” He continues with, “We will continue to support the government’s work and our users through this ongoing criminal investigation.”

Currently, it’s not known how many Photobucket members have been affected.
