Get ready, people: the coffee break as you know it is about to change. Starbucks will offer a delivery option in its mobile app in select areas next year. Just imagine being able to order your morning, mid-morning, lunch, after-lunch, and afternoon coffee the night before. Hot (or, depending on your order, cold) Starbucks coffee brought to you whenever you want it.
The announcement came Thursday after the company reported below average quarterly sales.
In a conference call, Starbucks CEO, Howard Schultz, said, “Imagine the ability to create a standing order of Starbucks delivered hot or iced to your desk daily. That’s our version of e-commerce on steroids,” reports Advertising Age.
Starbucks has been pushing its mobile app that allows customers to place orders ahead of time and pick up their order without waiting. The pre-order option will first be introduced in the Portland area before the end of this year.
Starbucks has already been building a customer-loyalty program through its mobile payment app and says about 15% of all purchases are made with mobile devices.
