Sony reached yet another milestone for Sony’s PlayStation 4 video game console.
During a press event at the Gamescom video game conference, the company announced global sales of PS4 topped 10 million.
The PS4, which launched November of 2013, has been a huge hit. Sales of the company’s video game and network division nearly doubled during the second quarter.
“It’s a remarkable milestone that reinforces PS4’s record-breaking pace and the movement it has created among players globally in defining next generation gaming,” said Shawn Layden, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America.
Hardware sales more than doubled this past June, thanks to strong surge in sales of the PS4, along with rival device Xbox One, according to data from NPD Group.
While the PS4 has burst out the gate the fastest, does it have the longevity to out last other systems. Thats unknown at this time, but it has been the top-selling video game console in the U.S. for six straight months.
Fall of 2014, Sony plans to launch a software update for PS4, which will include YouTube upload supports and Share Play, allowing players to invite friends to join in on a game, even if they don’t own a copy.
